English-speaking little girl

China

Kunming is a new city populated by people who were once farmers. And no one speaks English. Except for an eight year-old girl.

She caught our attention in a bus heading downtown by speaking fluent English — asking us questions and then telling us her dreams. She wanted to keep improving her English so that she could study at a university overseas. She would then return home to China and have a rich boyfriend (she explained that money is very important), get married and have a great job thanks to her hard work as a student.

Her determination was amazing, but her dreams didn´t sound like those of an eight year old, at least not one that we had ever met before.
